How does a teleprompter | autocue work?

A teleprompter | autocue works by reflecting a speaker’s script in a one-way mirror, with a camera or audience positioned behind the glass, rendering it effectively invisible. It allows the speaker to maintain eye contact with the camera or audience as they speak, creating a more connected experience.

Different combinations of equipment are required for different types of jobs, but most jobs follow a similar pattern.

You supply the script or text as a Word or Google doc. The autocue operator formats the script and loads it into the software. The size of the font can be adjusted to suit the speaker.

The software allows the operator to smoothly scroll the script. The operator controls the speed of the text, keeping pace with the presenter, and slowing down or stopping if the presenter needs to pause or adlib.
